Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Tottenham extended their winning streak on the road in the top division and delivered Everton their first defeat at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman struck twice from set-pieces in the first half to put their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - set up by ex-Everton forward the Brazilian - headed home a final goal to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender believed he had equalized the tally five minutes after Van de Ven's opener, glancing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, failed to convert a handful of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of excellent stops to ensure Tottenham went five away games unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the VAR intervened, advising Craig Pawson to check the goal on the pitchside monitor and the referee ruled that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

This victory moves the manager's team up to third in the Premier League, five points off local foes and table-toppers Arsenal.

The Merseyside club remain in 14th position and are six points clear of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender fulfils duties at each end of the field

Following a drab midweek display in the Champions League against the French side, where they managed a only attempts on target, Frank opted for the French striker up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The new arrival was unable to influence the game before being substituted for the substitute after 60 minutes on the field, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the end.

Defender the Dutchman transformed into an attacking force to be feared.

Spurs' opening strike came from a well-worked set-piece play, with the midfielder directing the ball toward the face of goal for an unmarked the defender to score.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as skipper in the Argentine's absence - added his next goal in added time as he outjumped the England keeper to nod in.

Van de Ven was equally outstanding in defence, partnering effectively with Kevin Danso as the pair handled excellently with the numerous deliveries sent their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Everton missing striker's instinct

The club's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the freshness may have faded slightly and supporters flocked to the gates after the midfielder's third for Spurs.

The end in Everton's winning streak at home won't be a massive worry for David Moyes, but their attacking woes are.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' pair of established centre-forwards - had scored just one league goal combined before the weekend's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor record on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

Beto's form was epitomized when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, even with having room and opportunity to reposition for a more conventional attempt that would have challenged Vicario.

The substitute, too, failed to influence the game after coming on for Beto in the 65th minute.

It was not for a lack of opportunity. Most of the home side's offensive moves came through Grealish and the forward, who tirelessly delivered dangerous crosses into the Spurs box.
