Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at all of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting 36 points Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four during the early running.
The Japanese spun out over the track edges before spinning across the gravel trap, and was lucky to get away with just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the high-speed corner before the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran ended the session in 19th, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber P3, over half a second slower than Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
