“That was unfortunate. It was kind of an exchange with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones stated during a Tuesday interview. “There was a large group of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, our fans. The whole venue was filled with enthusiasm for the Dallas team.”
He further emphasized that the signal was completely accidental, happening amid the elation following the team’s last score. “I simply showed the wrong digit,” he remarked. “It was inadvertently performed. This is sincere. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. But it got resolved rapidly.”

This incident isn’t the first time an league proprietor has been fined for misconduct. Previous cases involve:
- Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at fans in January 2024.
